Garden Railroading

April 2004

The Central Iowa Garden Railroad Society (CIGRS) met at the Madison County Historical Museum in Winterset for its April get-together.  The original Rock Island depot has been moved to the museum complex and refurbished.  The interior of the station includes an agent's desk and awesome "Round Oak" stove.  The depot's freight dock is these days occupied with a G-scale layout.  On this particular afternoon, we were blessed with winds near 50 mph, and people were having trouble keeping even heavy locomotives on the rails.  Lighter rolling stock remained in safer locations.

A large collection of additional model equipment and railroad memorabilia is housed nside the depot's freight room.  The CIGRS meeting, under the able supervision of President Joe Godfroy and Treasurer Bill Joy, was held in the old depot waiting room.

Speaking of garden railroads, we have ours back in operation.  These pictures, taken on April 25, show all the freight rolling stock (15 cars) circling the layout in a single train, pulled by a GE 45 tonner.

That's It!
